One of my favorite things about Spring are the scents of the season; in particular, the smell of the flowers blooming. I love walking out of my in the morning, and smelling the fresh scent of a new day. While there are not very many flowers that have a distinct smell, there are two that come to my mind. One is the Hyacinth, and the other Narcissus. In the midwest, Hyacinth bloom from about March to May, and Narcissus from December to March. Both of these blooms are very fragrant, and I think you either really like the scent, or really hate the scent. In addition to the smell, I believe both of these flowers are truly beautiful blooms. These blooming plants are bulbs, so they can either be planted outside, or forced indoors in pots. Right now, I have a Hyacinth in my home, and I just can't seem to get enough of the amazing smell...my living room is truly fragrant from one little plant! Plants of these types keep the season in the forefront of my mind, even on gloomy, cold days, when Spring seems to be no where in sight! My only wish for these blooms is that they would last longer...just a few additional days, or a week, so the scent of the season could be kept alive just a teeny bit longer!
Today's activity: smell the blooms
Today I encourage you to take in a scent of the season. Take a trip to the market, or a florist, and see if a Spring bloom is available for you to sniff! As I mentioned, I believe you will either love or hate the smell, but give it a whirl! Who knows, you may enjoy the scent to much, that you opt to take a plant home with you, and allow the scent to travel throughout your peaceful haven. Whether you choose to buy a bloom or not, truly take in the scent, and know that the fragrance that is one which will last only a short time, however, the memories of the season can stay within you for many days to come!
